Former Cleveland Indians pitcher and broadcaster Herb Score passed away earlier today. Almost every Indians fan knows of the story of Score's early success and the tragedy which befell him, being hit in the eye with a line drive at the age of 23.
Many other websites will do a much better job of chronicling the many accomplishments of Score. Personally, Herb Score was the voice who introduced me to baseball. I spent countless nights listening to him paint a picture of the game in only the way which he could. His humorous comments, both intentional and unintentional, made every game enjoyable and an experience. The first career I wanted to pursue was a baseball broadcaster because of Herb Score. I love baseball as much as I do because of Herb Score. There will never be a broadcast team that will compare for me to that of Herb Score and Tom Hamilton. I would like to see the Indians honor Score by naming part of the ballpark after him or by building a statute. The Indians have lost a legend today. And he will be missed.
